hmm..i guess it wasn't a good idea to ask that question. i just wanted to survey the people to see if it's something most ppl do and get away with, cause i wanna drop an SR. but it's a bad idea to ask that question cause you never know who surfs these forums, yeah i know but i looked around more in the older threads and found you can make SR's legal through giving it a custom built title

I called ARB in El Monte, CA asking for the so called "engine importers catalogue" and they told me that whoever the manufacturer of the said engine will have it and not the ARB.
jap-merican, SR20 swap is completely ILLEGAL (beaten to death but lets beat it a little more) because not one USDM 240SX comes stock with SR20DET.
However, the ARB regulation states:
Does the S13 with SR20 belongs to passenger car category? YES
Does a 240SX with KA24 belongs to passenger car category? YES
I found none from ARB website that a replacement engine has to be from the same car MODEL.
According to ARB:
If the replacement engine does not come with emission parts similar to KA24, then you are out of luck. But if you can install the emission equipment from KA24 to SR20, you could get away with it.
I think I read it somewhere regarding the non-existent of the EGR from an SR20?!
If the referee does not know how to interpret (which most of them dont) the ARB law, then you fail like most people do...
WARNING: I havent tried it yet, but if it works, send me a PM.

After an engine change, vehicles must first be inspected by a state referee station. The vehicle will be inspected to ensure that all the equipment required is in place, and vehicle will be emissions tested subject to the specifications of the installed engine.
