Yeah but in all seriousness I run 215/40 on a 9J wheel and its fine, I daily the car too. It is somewhat stretched but its fine in my opinion.

I guess if you really want to do things by the "book" then 235-245 width would be the ideal tire for a 9J wheel.

Not trying to attack you nismo knight but seriously. If it looks uneven then run a 195 and a 225 in the rear then. Theres no need for big fairy tires that not only looks like ****, but its not good for anything but drag racing. maybe a little grip.
Running that stretched of a tire is a hazard, how do I know? Falken sat me down and taught me about all that. Yes, it looks nice, but it is out of specs for a 215. Your chances of that tire coming off the bead is 35% higher than having a side wall blow.

I'm not saying run thicker tires, I stretch my tires as well, but not that far. The thinnest tire I ever ran was a 225 in the rear (9J). Anything smaller, I would not recommend, image is all it is. And I wouldnt use anything higher than a 245 since my car only produces stock torque. 235 is more than enough for me with a stock engine. Which brings me to the next reason, if you run a mild HP/TQ rating, 215 would be way too thin, and break traction way too easy.

And no, anything wider than 215 has functions for more than "drag racing" If stretching the tires was the best idea, you would see F1 cars doing the same, Road Racing cars, Drift cars, autox, LeMans, the list goes on. Yet they either dont stretch them or they just have a slight stretch (front tires in drifting).

Do you know the main reason why some would stretch the tire out? And no, its not about the look and the ability to make a wider rim fit under the fenders.

did you say drifters dont stretch their tires? lmao we don't play forumla d **** or nopi.

i understand your side tho. its all taste. it like stretched tires. you dont, spence doesnt, the list goes on. if i want to increase my chance of my tire blowing out 35%, thats my problem or anyone else who is with me. Hell we all race cars anyways, im sure thats not safe either. might as well look cool and have awesome fitment while your already doing something "dangerous.

lmao i think jordan knows why people stretch their tires as well. haha

ive been riding around with 215/40s on my 17x9s up front and 225/45s on my 17x10.5s out back for like 6 months.

no problems.

well, one problem was that the fronts looked un-cool, so now im running 215/40 on 17x9.5 up front.

^Pretty good statement JRD.
I agree with what you said.

If we formula raced or something of that nature, then stretching tires at all would probably be a horrible idea.
We drive around slow, low powered, cheap cars--stretched tires are the least of our worries.

Looking uncool in front of the babes in a 16 year old car, now that is a major problemo.

I thought you had that fixed LOL

To each their own, I'm just saying dont over stretch your ****, theres a reason why the catalogs have width limits published. But if you want to, go ahead. I use enough stretch to keep from having the sidewall tuck under and ride on it.
