low volume, ne ideas?

low volume, ne ideas?
hey so i recently bought a 95 240sx and the guy i bought it from was kind of an idiot an im not really sure if he messed with the radio or not but the volume doesnt turn up past like 4 decibles (exaggerated but prolly pretty close)
i havnt been back there yet but just for some knowledge before i start tearing into it
neone have ne ideas or could give me a starting point?
the car also doesnt have rear speakers an does have polk audio 6.5 in the front
the wires in the back are twisted together an i was thinkin that may be it but unlikely
it also has the stock speaker amps in the rear

when you said the wires in the back are twisted together, which do you mean?
Well in any case, it'd be ideal to solder any wires that are currently only twisted together.
Doing so solved one of my audio problems where if I turned the volume up too high it'd go silent,
but was fine if i listened really low (if that makes sense to you).

My opinion, it could be one of a few things. First, your amp is bad. Second, the radio itself could be bad. Last, bad wiring.
It's probably the first mentioned item due to the fact that there is no internal amplifier in the radio itself.
Make sure the wires in the back aren't touching or exposed, because I believe someone had mentioned they could be grounding out. The only thing is that if this were the case, you wouldn't get any sound either out of that speaker or the whole system. (Depending on how it's wired.)
Since the person who had it before already had aftermarket speakers in there, I'm going to just assume that everything has been screwed up and start from scratch.
I've been installing car electronics for almost 6 years now and I find that going back and testing everything from the head unit back to the speakers is the best way to solve the problem. It might seem time consuming, but you'll find out EVERYTHING about your system that way. Good luck. Let us know if you need any further assistance.
