POS/NEG wires on stock speaker plugins?

I installed Sony Xplod 6.5" 4 way speakers in the front and rear of my 98' 240 today. I think i spliced the wires to the correct stock wires, but just want to make sure. Which color wires are positive and negative in each corner??? each corner has two different colors, lol... pain in the ***!!!

I'm not too sure about yours, but usually those wires in cars are color-coded with a black stripe on one and none on the other. The one with the black stripe is the negative.

nope! they all have two different colors, not the reg. "color and black, etc..." like, pink&green, red&blue, brown&red, etc... they dont seam to mean much... i do think they each have one striped wired, as in, one of the two wires has a stripe in it!

Hmm.... well all I can say is, unless someone knows, check the back of your deck, or just hook them up one way, and try the other way, whichever way sounds better is the right way....

Truthfully, I have never seen a big difference myself, but I'm not an extreme audiophile so.... But really all a speaker is is a powered magnet so I don't think it will cause any harm, possibly a little more distortion is all I can imagine. You can easily find out which one is powered and which is negative with a circuit tester. Ground the lead of the tester to the chassis and use the needle end to check which wire is live. You could pick one up for 5 or 6 bucks at your local hardware store.

i should know this, but i don't it will WORK either way, maybe it's just a phase shift ? but yeah, if it sounds better a certain way, use that!

it works both ways, but better the right way, i tested them with my voltmeter, got all the colors down, had two wrong, the speakers are good now, and clearer, and louder... when the speaker "bumps" the cone goes out, but when they are hooked up wrong, that cone will go IN, so it does matter...
