Chances are your box doesn't weigh as much as you think it does. I have a 12in and after manuvering it a lot i got it to fit (barely). It won't effect your handeling at all and 25lbs. in your trunk won't make it slower either. Just remember to clamp it down good because it will be all over your trunk if you don't. Don't put too much in your trunk though because then you will notice the added weight in the back. (too much is when your start to see the back of you car dropping or sagging like some of those civic guy's cars).

I built a custom box out of MDF, got a 2 foot by 4 foot sheet of it and made a 13"x13"x11" box. Its a 12 inch sub. It fits in the hatch perfectly, i have the sub firing upwards. I used these clamp things to tie the box to my rear strut bar. It wont slide around no matter how hard i corner.

I'd look into fiberglass. I've had 3 different boxes in the back on my 95 for various set-ups. I had a 10 seated where my spare tire was. The box for that was 5 pounds and that inclueded a beauty box for the amp next to it. if you've got a MDF box that is pretty bulky for a 10 then if anything i'd look into better distribution of the volume. GOOD LUCK.

I have 2 10" subs in a custom mdf box in the trunk of my 95 240 and i haven't noticed any drops in performance.

I have a little bit of advice... I cut out a 1/2 inch diagram of my trunk out of plywood, then cut it in half and put it in the trunk and bolted it together (it wouldn't fit otherwise)...... then I mounted my sub and amp to that and it works wonderfully.... It also provides a much sturdier and cleaner look for your trunk instead of that flimsy warped cardboard

edit: if you put the sub box in the trunk (assuming it barely doesn't fit) before bolting the two pieces together you might help some of the clearance problems
