help! smoke from tranny..?

Ok so my car has been running brilliant but I just did a 3 hour trip (1 1/2 each direction) and just as I was pulling into my driveway I saw smoke coming from my shifter. I had been smelling something odd for about 30 minutes. im *assuming* that oil has leaked from my front mail seal or something and is getting on my super hot exhaust. My mechanic said I have a very slow/small leak.. I think I just need to clean off the oil that has gathered there over a long period of time.. anyways to help seal the leak ?

if its your rear main seal then you need to replace it, if its leaking from somewhere else than tell us where..
