Rear end swap?

Rear end swap?
Hey guys. I have a 1990 240sx. I don't know much about the car, but I was told that the 94+ had a stronger, posi rear end. Is this true? Also, would it be possible to swap the later rear end into my car?

First and foremost, welcome.
That out of the way, by 'rear end', are you referring to the differential? And by 'posi', I will presume you're referring to 'limited slip' or 'locking', correct? If so, I've got the four step program for you:
Step 1: Check out the FAQ Forum
Step 2:
Step 3: Post any questions you have that were not covered by steps 1 or 2 in the appropriate forum
Step 4: Repeat steps 1 through 3 until all questions have been answered
This will serve two purposes:
1. Keep you from getting 'reprimanded' (while I don't think a lot of flaming goes on here, there's still potential)
2. For those who DO search, it will prevent 1000 results full of the same information, or threads with "SEARCH N00b!!!"
Hope that helps.

Thanks, and sorry about that.
Yes, I did mean the diff. Also my posi I did mean limited slip, locking, positrac.
I plan to swap a big 509 cid 450 horse, 500 ft. lbs Cadillac motor into this thing. (Don't know if I get shuned or something for saying that)
I want to just make a fun street/strip car, but it needs to be on the cheap. Just thought maybe the later rear end would be able to hold up, and would rather something that would fit better than a modded Ford 9" or something w/ the IRS and all. I'll hit up the search and FAQ tonight.

I see, you've got BIG plans in mind. Well, I can say that I have heard of someone putting a 9" Ford rear in a 240 (methinks it was a car for sale on eBay once). I dunno about the 509, but there have been quite a few V8 240 swaps in recent years. Here's one that comes to mind:

Here's another: http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=267840
There's a guy who has done several V8 swaps into 240s by the name of Aries on ********.com and a few other places (do a google search for his name +v8 +240sx). His site, limecreekmotorsports.com, isn't there anymore, but there was tons of cool stuff on it.
I don't know what it takes to get the Ford rear end to fit, but it can be done. Also, I don't know the physical dimensions of the 509, but if it's tall, you may have to go with some kind of cowled hood. Anyways, best of luck on your project!

Yes, that video on streetfire is what inspired me! First thoughts were a wagon, but how can you beat 2600 lbs of an awesome quality car and IRS?
The Cadillac engine is really a 500, but it would end up as a 507 or 509 after boring it out. Of course, if I had the cash it could be forged rods and pistons, turbos, juice, and upwards of 700 horses. However, I think a mild build will get me started.
I will definilty have to hunt around on ********.com. Thanks for that information. It will be very helpful to talk to someone who has done this before.
The Cadillac engine is very tall. All said and done, I will probably be running a 4" or so cowl. Do they make any type of fiberglass or anything hoods for these cars? If not there's always just modding the old one.
Thanks for the help, I really do appreciate it. Now for some research!

No prob.
While I know there are all kinds of custom fiberglass and CF hoods for the 240, I'm not so sure about ones with a 4" cowl. You just might have to custom fab something.
Anyway, good luck with the build.
