Transmission troubles
Since it has been getting colder outside my car is becoming a problem. I have to warm it up for around 15 min. for the car to even go into gear. Not unitl the car is at a constant temperature will it allow me to shift into gear without trouble. I have also noticed that the the transmission is grinding more frequently when I try and put it in gear, mostly first. What do you think the problem is?

Old car with cold weather=poor performance. You might try changing out the fluid and adding a quality tranny fluid, not just 80-90 gear oil. I live here in Ohio and it's been 10 degrees lately and some other people I talk with on another site have had similar problems. I can't remember the name but I'm sure someone on here can help me. It's not cheap, either, but it works. If that doesn't work make clutch/clutch adjustment or just worn out tranny.

So what you guys are saying is that the fix might be as simple as changing my transmission oil? I haven't changed the oil since I purchased the car about 1200 miles ago so I guess I'll put in some synthetic. Any one have any suggestions for good synthetic transmission oil?

Automatic transmission solve this problem by using the engine to warm up the transmission. The oil line from the transmission passes by the radiator core, thus when the radiator water warms up, so does the trans. If your car has a Manual, and SOMEHOW you find a oil line, you can get a radiator from an auto and hook it up. But I've never heard of something like this beign done, so it would be a first.
