Engine troubles

I have a 91 240sx ka24de. I'm pretty sure i ran it low on oil. Last night i was rollin down the highway and got a knocking noise. ive always had the ticking noise(which im sure is from the chain guides,ive just never gotten around to taking them off yet). this ones quite a bit worse,loud,deeper, almost a clunking. My friend thinks it could be the bearings knocking. I took off the cover and ran it to hear it better. there's definitly a noise from the timing, and also a louder clunking from elsewhere. Ive read a few other posts and seems like timing and bearings are most likely. my Other friend who works at a shop said if it was the bearings, i would have low to no oil psi. but when it broke the oil light wasnt on, yet there was hardly any oil in it. possibly its broken?

any ideas or input anyone could give me would be appreciated. just trying to find things to check on and narrow it down. this car is so fun and i hate it at the same time haha. the auto tranny went out in jan. did a manual swap on it and that part works great, now the engine is f'n up :P.

your engine is stock right? that loud noise you hear, are you sure its coming from your engine and is it causing your engine to act differently?

Yeah I forgot to add, when i was going down the highway it started clunking, and i noticed it wouldnt go any faster lol. it didnt seem like it was getting any fuel, and so i slowed down and tried to speed up and got nothing. and i pulled over to the side and she just choked and died. but after it cooled down a bit i got it running again. just didnt wanna drive it. got it towed 2 mins before the cops got to it :P

its stock, and im pretty sure its from the engine. where else would it be coming from lol.

the oil light is crap! it warns you when its too late. and thats even IF the stock pressure switch works. maybe the bulb on the cluster is out. im betting on bearings as well, hopefully your crank isnt all scratched up. another possibility is that your guides broke off and is causing the noise

One more little dumb question. i have a list of compatible engines(i believe):
Applications

* Nissan Xterra
* Nissan Frontier
* Nissan Altima
* 1991-1998 Nissan 240SX

* 1993-1997 Nissan Bluebird

Are these just basic drop ins with swap of manifold and distibutor etc? cause i need my s*** fixed lol. i can rebuild the other one when its out.

any info is super appreciated.

if ur looking for a swap then maybe you should look at the SR20DET to throw in there.. get a little more power and a wide open list of things u could do with it... just my 2 sense..

hopefully it all works out in the end, sorry to hear this happended

If your sticking with the KA just get one from the 240sx, the Altima won't work due to being FWD, the Bluebird is a Japan only car with SR20 and is FWD as well. You may be able to do one from the truck, but I'd just stick with an engine from the 240 just to make sure it will be a simple drop in.

yeah well i have this one busted motor. im working on getting a beater car. but i have put so much damn time in this car. when the auto went out i swapped to manual, that was fun. now my engine broke. ive been reading alot on engine swaps. im really torn between doing a ka-t upgrade or an rb20 upgarde. i dont mind cutting and rigging things. as long as i have a second car to work with. but i have already spent the $ on a tranny swap(roughly 800$ for some used and lots of new parts). i dont much wanna spend money on a new engine and a new tranny. although id have to buy a lot of **** for the turbo and stuff, may end up being the same price? no idea really. im still confused about which to do haha. i dont drift unless its raining, i generally just race people on the road once ina while. ( i have a lead foot) so more of an everyday driver type thing. i drive alot of miles and never been ona track with this car. so i will just keep reading haha.

thanks for all the info and tips guys.
