Well..when i throw my transmission into reverse, i hear a loud knocking and a shudder going through the car. The other thing is, sometimes the shifter will refuse to go into 1st gear. I have a 92 coupe i just bought, it just had a tune up, and new clutch put in. Maybe its just me? But ive never felt the shuddering in my friends S14. One last thing.. is it normal to be able to shift gears without the clutch being pressed in if the engines not running when my cars just standing?

im not sure about the sounds and 1st gear but not steppin on the clutch n shiftin when the car is off is no big deal, nothin is spinning so its fine

Damn 56K.. coulda sworn i clicked on technical.. 2 different situations. when my car is not running, should i be able to go through the gears without using my clutch? i have an S13, and my friend cant do that on his s14. then theres the time when im the engine is running.. if im just chyllen there, and i move the shifter from neutral into reverse, it knocks and shudders. could it be my transmission fluid? im thinking of picking up some motul tranny fluid. the 2nd situation is when im say.. 3k-4k in 2nd, and i push in the clutch, start slowing down, etc..and i wanna shift into 1st cause i know im making a full stop, it just wont go. is that just a safety mechanism? Damn i hate being a noob :*( 17yrs old and lovin' it ;-)

What kind of clutch do you have, how old is the clutch, and have you checked your clutch master cylinder to see if it has any hydralic fluid in it yet?

Aight dude I hope people back me up on this, but if ur in first moving forward at all and u put it in reverse itll grind or make a noise I think its cuz non syncrhro gear and u cant really put it in first unless uare going 5 miles or less, it saftey lock. It is possible to rev match into that gear though its still hard but I do it sumtimes to show off lol. I hope its not messing up my tranny. Dont trip about the reverse thing mine does it to, im not sure if my friend does but it works, its shifts. Im running reline mt-90 fluid btw

I did it all from a stand still, and it still clunked lol. The clutch has maybe 4 thousand miles, and i havent checked the cylinder.. hmm.. next on my to do list.

yeah i noticed the reverse problem too with the grinding, the synchros thing seems to make sense, because it only happens in that gear...

I have the same problem too. I have a 1995 s14. My car won't go into reverse sometimes, or it'll make that grinding sound along w/ that shudder. I'm going to get it rebuilt cause people say it's most likely my gear synchros. ANyone know of a good place Close to los Angeles where I can take my tranny to get it rebuilt? thx!
