CA18DET Question

I would like to know why you guys are talking about the CA18DET because it is a FWD motor. How are you going to go about switching that to RWD so that you can do the swap into the 240sx no matter the year?

The CA18DET came in the 89-90 Nissan Silvia. IT IS REAR WHEEL DRIVE and front wheel drive. just like the SR they made it in FWD (nissan Pulsar NX, CA18DE or CA18ET) and RWD (Niassan 180SX, silvia, CA18DE, CA18DET)

That is what this place is for, learning. I knew it came in the 180sx and earlier silvias but just didn't know too much on the matter and you are the ones that help me learn. Since I am looking to do a cheap swap into a s14 I am finding out about all of these and this would be one of the cheapest swaps if it would work without too much crap in a 95 240sx

The RB20 can be had cheaper than the CA18. The CA18 is a very good motor..it was my first choice, but I am impatient and these are gettign extremely hard to find

I can find it real good but wouldn't the RB20DET be a little harder to do the swap then the CA18DET. I am also looking at ease of the swap.

Well the only thing that needs to be changed is the crossmember. Really you can use the KA crossmember and make custom mounts. The RB25 requires more work with the driveshaft. Custom mounts will be better since it will lower the engine.

I am guessing you are talking about the RB20, what about the CA18.

from my limited knowledge.......the mounts and everything are the same. It bolts right in. The CA18 was in out/this chassis (S13 anyway)

The CA has a lot of potential even though it's probably the smallest performance engine Nissan ever came out with. It has a square bore and stroke and also forged pistons stock. Although it is only about 175 hp stock, it has capabilities for over 400hp on stock internals (had a friend do it)....it's truly amazing since there are tons of civics that try to reach that number all the time with the same 1.8 L displacement and don't get there before spending $15,000

Sorry for the comment. the CA18DET is one of the most popular engines Nissan ever built for the the 240. Some japanese tuners can get more hp out of a CA then a SR just cause of the iron block. What SCC said about the head bolts breaking is a total lie. i know people that have reached 400 hp on stock bolts where as SCC said they blow at 300. it just depends how much Psi ur running. they blow at 28 psi so wou caqn do alot with it b4 it gets to risky
LONG LIVE THE CA18DET

Will it basically be plug in play in the s14 chasis? Just like an SR installation?
