Camshafts/gears/pistons?????
Camshafts/gears/pistons?????
Ok, i dont know too much about aftermarket parts in the engine so....i have a few questions.....First, If i change my camshafts and gears Will i have to change the timing or any other parts. If i get pistons and rods, Will i have to get the head ported and polished or any thing to the head? If i do get camshafts, gears, pistons, rods....What is the best size pistons n everything else??? Im sorta lost when it comes to sizes on internal engine parts. Thanks to anybody that can help me!
assuming this is for an N/A application, moved to "Naturally Aspirated" as this has nothing to do with drivetrain.
If you get new pistons and rods you do not have to do any head work if you don't want to. What are you planning on doing to the engine, are you staying N/A, going turbo?

Yes it will be the same for the SR20, you will not need head work. It won't hurt though, just make sure its done correctly. As for pricing, I'm not totally sure and it varies from shop to shop, I would say dig out a phone book and find a few local machine shops and give them a call, they will be able to tell you better than I can.
You don't have to, but a smart thing to do is gather up the parts you want, but wait to install'em until you have the cash to get polish and port work done with a valvetrain upgrade to compilment the money your'e spendin. If your buying all these parts you must be pretty serious about performance, which means you'll probably wind up doin all that stuff anyways, so why not have it all done while the engine's all apart, you'll wind up spending less in the long run.
I gotta agree with soldier here, it will save you alot of trouble doing it all at once so you don't have to keep ripping your engine apart or paying someone to rip it apart for you.
How much power are you looking at producing terribleone?

If you're going for around 400 Horse, then I think its best you do headwork.
A nice free flowing head is always a plus and I know SR heads can gain a good amount of power from a nice P&P.
