Coilpacks not firing on #1 and #2...

OK, this is about my last draw with this car... I have been working on it everyday for the last month or so. Its a 92 hatch that had an SR in it already with bad compression and it ran on 2 cylinders when i got it. I got a fresh redtop from heavy throttle and have been transferring everything over. I finally finished a few days ago and I fired it up yesterday.

It was idling very sluggish and sounded very familiar to the other motor... I set TPS voltage, and then I tried to set timing and my timing light wasnt picking up a signal. I tested the coilpacks and #1 and #2 arent even firing!! Exactly like the bad motor. So either wiring is bad somewhere, the ignitor is bad, or the ECU is bad??? These are different coilpacks than the old SR. Anyone have any ideas??

All 4 coils are getting voltage... 1 and 2 must not be getting the signal.

ECU is correct for a turbo S13 Sr20

You need to start digging into the possibility that your ECU is bad, the harness has problems or maybe the igniter is bad. I am not by any means suggesting you buy parts & replacing them, I am saying its time to do some detective work and start ruling out possibilities. start with the harness as its the easiest thing to have messed up. The wires and pins in the connectors are really QUITE delicate...start checking continuity through the coil subharness, check the coisl & see that htey are good, check the harness from the igniter to ECU for continuity and test the igniter. Hook up some lamps to the harness and see if the coils are getting power. You can unplug the coils and put some 12V bulbs in there on the correct pins and it will flash the bulb on pulse.

Good luck man, stuff like this drives most people to drinking!

Ok, i tested the coils and its not them. All 4 are working bc I switched them around and 3 and 4 are still only firing. I took the coilpack harness out and tested for continuity and its all fine. I also got a new ignitor and it didnt do anything. So they arent getting a signal. So its either my ECU or harness, correct?

Dude, remember I told you to START with the harness, I hope you didnt buy another ECU....but if you did, I might be interested in buying one off you!!!

there are 8 wires to test, check continuity from ECU to igniter on all 4 ign signals and from igniter to coils.

Well email me with your price and maybe I can help you out. I am working on an SR20 install and I got an SR20DE ECU instead of the DET one.

Thanks!

Now why would my coilpack harness and engine harness have the wires going to the coils from left to right as Ground, Positive, ECU; and on my coils it says ECU, Positive, Ground? Either I got the wrong coilpack harness or the wrong coils, both of which didnt come from my last engine, harness, or this engine.

Ok its not the coil harness, got my engine harness rewired, put it into another redtop s13 and it works fine... Still my car is messed up. I'm 100% sure its the CAS... it was in the old motor which is beat and has 80k+ miles on it. So i got one coming, does this sound like thats it?
