KA-T vs s14 SR20det

which is better for a s14 240. go ahead and turbo the stock KA, or swap the KA for a SR and mod the SR?

if i was a moderator i would lock this thread.

im sure a quick search will give you MUCH reading material.

but lets do a quick rundown.

say you only want 250rwhp

KA:
T25 .................... 150.00 used
manifold............... 150.00 ebay cheap-o
injectors.............. 75.00 used
SAFC (cheap tune) 150.00 used
downpie............... 130.00 ebay cheap-o
fmic.................... 450.00 greddy m-spec
hotpipe............... 100.00
BOV................... 100.00 used
boost controller.... 150.00 used

total: about 1450 or so

SR:
motorset............. 2500.00
wiring service...... 250.00
fmic................... 450.00
boost control....... 150.00

total.... way more than 1450

BUT.. lets say you want 300 or more hp

KA:
pistons.................... 600
rods........................ 400
bearings.................. 300
seals/gaskets.......... 400
labor to rebuild.......... 1200
manifold.................. 1200
turbo..................... 700
tuning (rom tune)...... 650
fmic........................ 700
injectors.................. 400
boost control............ 250
wastegate............... 250
blah blah blah

total... alot

SR...

take all the turbo accesories from the KA, and just add 2500. the SR can handle lots of power, the KA cant. plain and simple. if you want alot of power, the KA is going to need to be built. i ALWAYS tell people to plan about 5k for an engine build. so your built KA is now twice the price of an SR.

and the prices i listed are just numbers being pulle dout of my ***. are there cheaper routes? of course. someone alwasy knows a 'guy' who is selling something cheap, blah blah. and i, even giving you the benefit of the doubt that youre going to be doing the labor yourself, but i doubt you wont be rebuilding your own motor, or youd already know the answer to your initial question.

youve got 3 options and you only get to pick 2.

cheap
fast
reliable

turbo the ka till it blows up then take your turbo stuff and swap it on to whatever engine you swap in. Was my plan until my ka skipped the turbo part and decided to go ahead and blow lol
