i have enough to do both which is around 4 - 5 g's but i have people that can get it the swap done for 3 and the turbo done for 5 i live in south california in orange county and not too shure bout the sohc or not but ill check up on it
U drive a 90 s13 u have a sohc. I wouldn't turbo that motor. Had a buddy with 2 240's one with a fully built KA turbo and the other with a redtop sr20. Sr20 feels a lot better. Not sure how the dohc turbo feels, but why turbo a motor that wasn't meant for a turbo and spend the money tuning the **** out of it. When you can get a motor that is built for a turbo for the same price or less depending on what color top your going for. A lot of ppl say yeah the ka is good to turbo cause of the toruqe. And feels like a super charger. But what are you aiming for drift? track? or just to have? But how much more do you have to spend on building if you want more boost.
What differences does it make that they sr20 is only a 2.0 liter as where the ka is a 2.4. If you turboed a ka24de do you think it would top the 205 hp the sr20 motor comes with. I heard you could get more power out of ka24de if you have the money. What do yall think?
There is more auto shops out there that tune and deal with sr motors than kae-t motors. That and sr motors can handle a bit more stress from boost than kat motors before you have to upgrade the bottom end.
It all depends on the owner's choice.
I decided to go with getting a sr20 front end clip instead of turbocharging the kat motor due to the convienence of it. The sr motor is all there and ready for you to turn up the boost, simple dropping in and moving around a few things, enlarging here and there and bam, you got yourself a 205 hp (depends on what sr20 motor your getting) crankin car. The stock t-25 turbo on the sr motor is good enough to use and can take a decent amount of psi before turbo efficency is a issue.
Also parts are available and compatible for the sr20 here in america, various nissan car parts can be accepted, look in faq and look for parts list. Only parts that only can be bough from japan are i think, the waterpump, starter motor, and something else, i forget.
I also think that the sr20det motor is coolie as hell
if you want to buy a turbo KIT for the ka24e motor, www.gladmanperformance.com though the guy hasn't made a intercooler kit to go with it yet.
I dont even think if hes making anymore, i think hes dead

i personally would do a ka24de before buying an sr20... so long as its in good shape, you will come out with a LOT more hp for the money and way more torque... but thats just me...
if i didn't go rb25 i would have definitly done ka-t

Tek- not to pursuade you in anyway but since you live in southern Cali, email me if you want to check out an rb25 93' 240. I live in Mission Viejo. jabello@uci.edu
turboing the KAE isnt worth the money IMO. But, if you are gonna do a swap, why do the SR, its done so much, its nothing too fun anymore. go for a higher difficulty, and more power potential. Go RB. It will cost more, but in the end, you will feel a hell of a lot better. the difference between hearing and feeling a RB powered 240 and a SR powered 240 is night and day. its like comparing a stock KA to a Stock SRDET
I was wondering the same question as well for awhile, and seeing how my mileage is pretty much eating it up, i scrapped the turbo idea, now I'm stuck on the idea between sr20det and rb25...dam decisions, off subject question, but wouldnt it be harder to maintain a rb25 in california, due to the fact everyone usually goes for the sr20det?
since i dont live in Cali, the RB isnt far off for me. thats why im looking for a dead S13 right now. Im gonna do a RB25DET swap. I am tired of hearing SR this, and SR that. SRs are becoming as common as a B18 swap into a civic. there is nothing to really impress you since so many have done it, or give some incredible power that you just dont expect. I dont plan on having my next S13 project done until next summer, but it will be all worth it
Tek,
I just bought a KA24de from a 93 240SX from a friend who just got rear ended. I myself am stationed in Turkey, but I'm doing the swap over time. I got the engine on a engine hoist right now at the garage we got here. I was looking through all the cardomain.com listings and the various 240 clubs and seeing all thse sr20 swaps and I really don't want anything huge, just enough get up and go to smoke the hell out of those stupid civics with a fart can on them. I also wanted to be a little different. Not too much. I have an 89 with no mods besides a injen intake right now. Since I bought the engine and the new harness, I'm just working on getting a turbo and manufacturing a manifold for it now. I don't have alot of experience with engine swaps so this is a first which is why I chose the ka24.
