RB20DET swap..cont'd

Ok, finally got some parts and time so I'm continuing on. Time to swap the lower harness(goes from fuse box in car to alternator, starter, speedo, and oil press idiot light) from the KA to the RB20DET. The plugs are different on the sensors that go into the transmission, so it's easiest to remove the sensors from the KA tranny, the go right into the RB. The KA has 3 sensors the RB only 2(KA has a 5th gear sensor forsome reason). Leave the middle plug unhooked, the 5th gear sensor is a normally open connection. The rest of the lower harness will bolt up. The wire to the start solenoid has a plug on it, where the RB has a male spade. The plug can be mutilated to expose a male spade, or you can cut and crimp a new one on. The RB also has a real oil pressure sender, under the intake above the oil filter. This needs to be swapped with the KA idiot light sensor unless you use the RB cluster. Timing belt and seals have arrived, so more to come......T3/T4 Hybrid turbo is on the way too

i believe the 5th gear sensor would be for cruise control.

You can keep the RB oil sensor in place, just splice the yellow/white wire from the RB plug to the yellow/white wire on the lower KA harness... The RB speedo should be cabel driven, where the KJA is electric so changing the sensors, like you said is the easiest way. I think the reverse sensor should be the same, no?

yeah I decided to run the KA cluster and install the RB tach. I had a grey face RB20 cluster laying around, it looks good enough. The speed sensor just bolted into the RB tranny.

someone said the 5th gear sensor was for the speed limiter, too bad this doesn't have that sensor maybe I won't have the stupid speed limiter either
