Well I know the SR20DET swap is 100% illegal, so I'd put money on the RB25 being illegal to put in too... Not all that sure tho.

Didn't we used to not get along lol?

Anyways. I am running a special right now on clips for $2750 on the RB25DET. These are pre-order. To reserve a clip, a deposit of $1500 is required with the remaining amount due before the clip's arrival (about 4 weeks). You'd have no problem doing the swap yourself either. Send me an email and we can discuss it all further. Also, we could maybe arrange something with the SR, but no promises....I mean, you could sell it and get quite a bit for it....probably enough to pay for a RB.

Oh yeah, the swap has not been approved by the DOT, so it's illegal. No swap but the KA is legal into the 240SX, sorry guys.

Wouldn't it be nice if they were?

So how do you guys go about getting through things like emissions tests and registration and all that kinda stuff? Just go to a shop that you know well and isn't gonna turn you in or what? And what do you hafta do if you do get caught?

I still don't know why it is illegal , so DOT has not approved it. Why did they not approve it ?

ANyone that can fill me in on this.

Night when you receive a deposit what garuntee's and or assures us that you are going to order the engine and or clip ?
Like maybe a signed contract in return ? Or you could mail the contract to the person and they sign it and return to you with the deposit ?

I am just curious , cuz I got nailed once ordering something this way , thank god it was only like 100 bucks. ( Still pissed me off ) But with a significant amount there should be some sorta assurance and or contract , should there not ?

A lot of places dont have emissions and can get away with it. Like here, all we have to do is fill out the slip ( name address ) and we get our registration sticker. other places i know they have to go get an emission test before they can get their cars re-registered. and they did not approve it because there are no cars stock in the united states that have the rb25 or rb26. and i'm pretty sure night will be cool about things and not rip you off. i've emailed him various times about things and he's answered back fully and professionally.

Just cuz he as answered the e-mails promptly , with knowledge and professionalism does not make him honest.

( No offense Night ) But with all the crap that goes on in the world it is hard to take ppl at face value and or for their word alone.

I was just wondering if he had anything like that setup or though thru. I am fully willing to beleive and trust him , just I have been burnt b4 so in the back of my mind I still need some assurance that everything is A-OK.

Most likely I will have him do the swap , so that would mean me bringing the car to him personally and maybe even helping him thru / with the swap. So that I can learn more about it. In that case I would not mind so much going to him and handing him the cash in person. For the swap labour.

I am more looking at the Deposit part of it , there are far too many horror stories out there about companies and or persons taking deposits / orders for product then when they gather so much money they just dissolve the business and dissappear. Even Hennessy who makes the aftermarket Vipers is known to have done some ugly crap to customers. Like keeping the car and not working on it , even selling parts outta something that is not his.

So I would like to know Night what do you have in place if anything ? ( I don't mean you are a bad person by this ) Just curious. Thanks again , Love that swap and want one soon.

hey, if you dont trust him. just go down to see him yourself. i got no problem with trust here. seeing he posts here a lot, gives out his phone number and other stuff. im sure he would give his address and drivers license number or whatever else you would need to feel comfortable.

Contracts are no problem. I also have a registered business: Night Szevyn Racing. I can have contracts filed and faxed or emailed in a matter of minutes and I can print out an invoice as well from my company. LoL, questions like this should be asked to me through email or over the phone. I have about 8 clips on order so far that will be processed on the 28th. Anyone want to add to my list?

See spoken like a pro , I was pretty sure since you were in business that you would have something setup. That's all I needed to know. I will not add to your list just yet. I am still debating on getting a bike ( Crotch Rocket ) or car for the summer. Seeing as how the car will prolly be in a garage for a little bit thru the summer.

THanks Night I will definately do business with you , and if I get anyone else interested in such swaps , I will send them to you. Thanks for clearing that up , and I am sorry for using this medium for asking such questions. YOu are a fair and honest person.

To My Future swap , WOOOOOT .

May the ricer's and domestics phear me

to clear it up, as far as legality goes, the (RWD) SR and RB engines are illegal to install in any street driven car in the US. They are not EPA certified motors (though they could pass, they were never sold in a US car). you can get away with it in states where they don't do emissions testing or have stringent laws on things like that (in california, its illegal to have a turbocharger on an engine not equipped from the factory or to tamper with emissions sytems if theres nothing wrong with them). In CA you're in serious trouble if you do get caught (this is unlikely) and you will not be able to pass emissions whatsoever (that means bribery).

i'd say go for it though. there are a good number of SR swapped cars running around in CA now, so if you can find a way to get away with that, getting an RB in there wouldnt be way too much more difficult. and in alot of other states you raelly dont have that much to worry about

Well, to clear this one up. The RB is actually legal in the US. It has been approved by the DOT for use in the US and is legal to install into a US car - providing it is a LEGAL Skyline. The SR was never approved for use in the US, nor is it approved for importation to install. Like you said though, likeliness of gettting caught really isn't too high.

you're 100% correct in that it's legal to install as a replacement in a (legally) imported skyline originally equipped with one
