okay i'm deciding whether i should get a redtop or blacktop for my s13.. i'm thinking if it would be better to get a blacktop since it is newer and i'm just wondering how much more the blacktop is over the red. What are the price ranges on both motors?

 

first you need to find out where you want to buy your motor from then look at the prices

 

yeah really depends on where you buy from, the black is usually a couple hundred more then red. Personally i'd go red, cuz there really no difference in the engines and your paying more money for a black top when you could put that money toward maybe like a bigger turbo for the red......

 

Are we talking both s13 engines? Not to hijack the post, but I had been wondering if the s14 blacktop would be more difficult to fit into an s13 chasis because of the OBDI and II issues....?

 

There is not real difference between the black and red...go with what you can afford

As for the S14 fitment in a S13..the wiring is a bit more difficult, but thats pretty much it

 

No difference??? A red top is 217 horse power a S15 black top is 247HP . 30 Horse power is a huge difference. JDM can tell you all about it. Im planning on getting the S15 black top instaled so I looked into all of that. The S15 black top has V V T and a 6 speed transmission. The older black tops like the S14 one I think is almost the same as the red top but not the one that came in the S15. So it realy depends on witch one you get but the one that came in the S15 is worth the extra bucks but yes wiring is more difficult for sure I totaly agree with that.

 

Arent we talking about S13 SRs? i thought this was S13 SR red vs S13 SR black. No HP difference

OOPS! My bad sorry bro! We are talking about the S13 black top V.S. the S13 red top aren't we?. I don't know why I thought we were talking about the S15 black top, I should read more carefuly. My bad sorry! Your right no difference between the black and red S13's.

S13(black and red)- about 205hp
S14(black only no red was made) - 220hp
S15(black only no red was made) - 250hp

 

yea really not much of a difference, all motors usually go through a test to make sure everything is working properly, and remember these engines are taken out of cars/found on cars with relatively low miles, so they are both good
i think it all depeneds on what u color u want under your hood when its popped!
