SR20DET - Definately NOT Impressed
On the RSX Type-S, that version of i-VTEC combines normal VTEC (third lobe and rocker, locking pin) with up to 50 degrees of cam phasing. Traditional VTEC doesn't alter anything except lift/duration. That lift and duration depends on how the VTEC lobe is ground.
It's VTEC. Vee-Tee-Eee-See.
Nissan's SR16DE with VVL is the closest thing to Honda's VTEC system. It has variable lift, but I'm not quite sure how it gets the extra lift. Toyota's VVTL-i has a slider that bumps the second slightly-lower lift cam to the same height as the other valve.
VVT, VVT-i, VarioCam, Double-VANOS, etc. are all cam phasing devices. I don't know what brand of Voodoo the Japanese use, but the Germans put a helical gear that telescopes with oil pressure to change the cam phasing.

What a mess this is turning out to be. It's the battle of the SR20's V.S. the RB's
I like the SR20det s13/s14 red top and black top but I find that in order to make them impresive you must put money into them. The RB25det and the RB26dett are great engines they have more stock horsepower then the SR20 series engines so stock v.s. stock the RB series are better motors. Personaly thoe I am going with the SR20dett S15 black top, 250 horsepower with vvt and a 6 speed transmission. It doesn't have as much power as the RB26dett but it's as close as you can get with a stock SRseries motor to a stock RB26dett. And from what I have found is that althoe the RB series is cheaper to buy, it is cheaper to get parts for an SR series motor then is is for an RB series motor and not only that, sometimes it's hard to get some parts for the RB motors, you have to order them and the RB has not prouven it self to be as reliable as the SR series. So as for me SR20DETT S15 Black top is my weapon of choice.

I used to think an SR20DETT existed. But that notion lasted for about three hours until I found out about that extra T. I don't see why anybody would think the S15 has a twin-turbo. On an Japanese 3S-GTE, it reads "Twin Entry Turbo" so I can see why people get confused on that motor...

ok lets say rb25 turbos blow at around 11 psi. wont a t28 bb turbo flow better and provide more power than a t25 at slightly higher psi? and i thought ball bearing turbos were suppose to be better than umm the kind of turbo a t25 is (i dont remember)?
