Sticky: Power Steering for SOHC swapped cars

Sticky this please?

There is no need to buy a DOHC P/S hose (about $180) from Nissan to make your steering work for 89-90 SOHC cars with a RB or SR swap.

Here's what you do:

On your SR or RB you should have a p/s hose(if you got a clip-I keep telling everyone to buy a clip ), that has a rubber section. Cut the rubber part as close as possible to the end, leaving the part attached to the engine still connected with the rubber hose.

On the car side cut the rubber hose(it's only about 6" long) close to the end as possible leaving the rubber part connected to the steering box.

Take both parts and have male/female ends crimped on the cut ends. A hydraulic parts shop, heavy equipment repair shop, or some hardware stores can do this for you. Cost is about $20.

Does the same apply for the CA? Or does the CA p/s match the Single Cams?

I thought the CA was the same as the SOHC but I'm not sure. As long as the pump is on the drivers side it's going to be the same process I listed above.

I never noticed this thread... all of that is completely unnecessary. You just need to bend the lines.. no cutting or anything.

Ummmmm the KA sohc has it's pump on the other side, so yes while bending the lines may work you are going to have 10 miles of mess under the hood. Maybe it's different for CA's but the SR clips are usually hicas and nothing works from the clip on a LHD car.

What about on 89-90 auto cars? I heard the PS on those is very different.

the easiest way is to use the 91-94 PS line, or 95-98 but you must remember to get the fitting on the rack if you also plan on using the return line. But the cheapest way is to rebend and reuse your old line and take it to a shop and have them clamp new fittings on it.
I like to take the whole setup out of an 91-98 and use the whole thing (for RBs you need the pump feed line from the skyline for this) that way you dont have to mess around with the fluid tank.
