What is the most power I should expect from a sr20det engine?

OK, I still have not been able to figure out the best way to do searches in this forum, as I typed SR20det power and only 4 posts came out and none spoke about what I wanted.

I want to know what is the max power the sr20det engine can take and what would that power level be with a built bottom end.

Thanks

how stong r u building the bottom end.
i've heard of some in japan with close to 1000 HP. the RB engines can go upwards of 1500 HP. ofcourse that is on race gas, and everything changes. the block is basicly the only thing that is the same.

with a built motor u can go up to or around 800 like Shift said. Takes a lot of money to get up there. On stock internals u can go up to 350 safetly(kinda) and when u get closer or over 400 ur really pushing it.

Guys thanks a lot for the info, it seems that the SR20DET is much stronger than I thought. I was even checking out putting the RB26DETT but apparently it makes no sense going over the hassle when your aiming for 350-400hp range.

Thats very possible with the Sr engine with stock internals and with some building we could get those numbers quite safely.

Perhaps this is not the furom to ask this, and I will check the appropriate one, but which year 240sx would you recommend the best for the swap. My goal is a good all around car, not a drag car.

I picked up my SCC magazines and found a lot of info on silvias and sr20 swaps. And more interrestingly it seems to be a not-so-expensive project to go ahead with.

THanks again and keep the great info flowing.

Thanks!!!

Ive been looking for a car to buy and swap the sr20det engine on it. And using the autotrader i saw that there are many Auto cars there. Since I'm replacing the engine and transmission, would it matter if the donor car is an automatic?
Will there be issues with lines , plumbing or something like that that would make the 5speed car the car to get ??

Thanks!!!

o0k dude it doesnt matter which 240 u get. BUT the 89-90 models u need to modify the PS lines to work with the SR so thats a lil tougher, id go with any 91-98 model. Just a lil easier. Personaly i got a Auto 240 and did the Auto to manual conversion and it wasnt hard at all. If u have a lil background of cars u can do it. And there really isnt anything differnt so its just as easy to swap in a OEM auto 240.

Thanks hyjynx!! I think I like the 1996 and newer cars better. And from what I can see the 1997 car received a more agressive front end, which I like even more.

Where would be a good place to look for 1997 240 sx, that has no engine on it, usually the car websites have running cars and since this one will be replaced the engine and tranny for me are not important.

Thanks a lot and I mean it!

Yea, looks like u been researhing which is good It is VERY VERY unlikely to find a 97+ 240 with out a engine. As a matter afact, its hard just to find a 97-98 240! So if i were u id look around for a 95-96 or maybe even a S13. They are getting tougher and tougher to find. And no problem, im hear to help bro
