10.2mm spark plug wires???
10.2mm spark plug wires???
i found some spark plug wires from TRIPLE CORE (on ebay) that are 10.2mm for my 96 240. are they any good? i heard somewhere that if you dont have enough mods on your car you shouldnt buy real big wires. i have injen intakew/ k&n filter, and hks catback.what do you think. thanks.
Hey I know this thread's REALLY old, but I have a question. I am about to buy new plugs and wires. I was looking at magecor's wires and they have 8.5mm and 10mm. You guys say both are like overkill. Is there any downside to that other than spending money on something bigger than you need? Will it negatively affect performance being so big is waht I'm asking. I'm going with the 8.5's and I just wanted to know if there's a drawback to too big. Thanks.
about those 'triple core' wires, i vaguely remember hearing something bad about those. i wouldnt use them anyway.
i have a the magnecor 8.5mm wires and they work great. i really dont see the need to go for the 10mm. i could've opted for OEM or NGK wires, but i figured it wouldnt hurt to get some magnecors.

the funny thing about spark plug wires is that 99.9% of them have the same amount of resistance no matter what the size of the wire is... if i remember right ( highschool autoshop 3) spark plug wires were 75 ohms/foot resistance... it was either that or 50 ohms/foot... they have been made out of the same material fot years... and there has not been much change in the material since they switched to silicone wires instead of cloth...getting huge wires anything over 8mm would seem to be a waiste of money...beings how they still have the same amount of resistance per foot...
case in point... look at serious drag racing cars... they dont have 10.5 mm wires... even nascar uses 8 mm wires... i used to have a set of plug wires off of a bob gliddon pro stock nhra drag car and they were the same taylor 8mm wires i used on my ford mustang... unless there have been major advances in spark plug wires or they have changed the resistance in the 10.5 mm wires i dont see where they would do any better than a set of 8 mm wires...
besides have you ever tried to find clamps for 10.5 mm spark plug wires??? i had a hard enough time finding them for my accell wires as it was...

so whatever diameter you get doesnt really matter? Even if the car is turbo, the larger wires wont have a big affect?
