240 wiring prob!!

Ok, I'm new to posting , so bare with me.. I have a 1990 240 5spd fb.. The fan shroud was loose and caused the fan to move and cut through my engine wiring harness ( cut through insulated wires). I have been looking for a replacement harness but to no avail.. I work for nissan and the part is no longer in production.. Can anyone help?? Thanks , joey

Can you just splice the split wires together?

You must be talking about the MAF & coil wires, that run across the shroud? As far as I know. There are no insulated wires there. Just wrapped with tape.

You will more than likely have to replace the harness though because the MAF wires are ohm sensitive & anything less than a solder back together( in some cases even the solder doesnt work) will give the ECU false readings.
Since you work at Nissan have one of the people that go to the auctions to keep a look out.
Also these things ar ea dime a donsen in the junkyards & the harness is( to me anyway) very easy to take out.
You need to just make sure it ciomes from a 5 speed car with you perticular emissions setup. A junkyard harness can run frm $50-$200

I'm trying to remember. Elizabeth is near Trenton correct? I used to live in Bridgeton & know quite a few junkyard in that area. I could make some calls for you.

Well hyjynx I thought the same and tried splicing the wires.. No luck.. Then I consulted some of my co-workers (nissan techs.) One of the main wires is insulated running atop the shroud which has an ohm resistance..as stated in project cheap 13's reply. I must say proj. Cheap u hit the nail on the head that is the exact reply I was hoping to get from this forum.. I appreciate the help , if you can some how produce a 5 spd harness for me that would be godlike.. I have been looking everywhere even the sleuth of junkers around here.. The closest I've come is to an 89 5spd harness, but their is a difference in the wiring and sme things are insulated.. Let me know please, or anybody else for that matter... Ciao

There is no difference between the 89 & 90 harness' As long as you get one from a 5 speed & the proper emissions.

BUT, with my 1990 auto. I got the engine out of a cali emissions car. I have a federal emissions car. Some of the harness doesnt match up to the dash. BUT the car runs fine & all the gauges work( I think the difference is a Cali car has a CEL on the dash, as mine does not).
JUST make sure you get the ECU to go with the harness. That is the main thing you need to remember...GET THE ECU.

I'll try & make some calls today up there & see what I can find.
