'89 240sx (S13) O2 sensor ghetto rigged to computer
First of all, let me say that I am a Volkswagen guy. My girlfriend has an '89 240SX and I am just trying to help her get it smogged. I have worked on the car a few times and I am pretty famililar with it (replaced timing chain and tensioner about 3 months ago), but I am no S13 expert!!
So here's the problem:
-The Oxygen sensor that is located on the exhaust manifold on the driver's side fo the car was modified by the previous owner. There is a long ghetto-fabulous wire that is connecting the oxygen sensor directly to the computer (located under the passenger side kick panel). This wire means that the car automatically fails the smog test because it is a "modified" emissions part. This is the first problem.
-The second problem is that the CEL is on. I am almost 100% sure that this is because the correct place where the oxygen sensor SHOULD be plugged in (somewhere along the main wiring harness) is open. I looked around but I cannot find the plug in the harness where the oxygen sensor is supposed to be plugged in.
The info that I need, if you can help me:
-Where the fugg does the oxygen sensor plug into the harness?!!!
-Why would someone wire it directly to the computer?
-If I plug it back into the correct spot, will this clear the CEL or will I need to reset the computer or something like that?
