Well I would do the sr20 swap no doubt this way i could attain both a 5 speed and the fact of having the sr. I would talk to li s13 blacktop, as he is one of the few that have a swap on the board in the NYC area.
I think that 2600 is ok if it comes with the wire harness and factory intercooler.
But upgrading all that stuff is recommended, i.e. fuel pump, intercooler at least.
But congrats on getting that S14a, as they are rare. and keep the NYC crew posted and check back with us in the northeast so we can arrange a meeting with the regulars.

well if u are paying 2600 to swap to 5 speed, i think that is way too much $$ to swap it and advance is a pretty expensive shop. Ever heard of rampage, heard some good things about them and also check with ultima performance out in LI.

My friends shop has the tranny right now man. He has 3 of them cause of Det swaps. That means ecu as well from a S14 SE if you need it. Other than that its just the pedals and clutch master cylinder. If you need more info then get back at me.
The shop is in Queens btw.

Notes on the swap:
Also needed is the reverse light wiring harness. Its only a couple wires. Very simple, plug and play. One side plugs into the side of the tranny, the other plugs in near the fuse box in the engine compartment. There may be 2 or 3 different receptors, only one fits, use that one.
Don't forget about the guage cluster, unless you want the auto guage cluster for nostalgia.
Don't forget to remove that little pilot bushing before inserting the 5spd mainshaft while bolting up the tranny... You'll be taking it all apart again in a day or two if you forget. (easiest way - is to use a tap and die - screw a bolt into it then slowly tap it out.)
If you only get the clutch pedal and not the brake pedal, Don't fret.. just saw half the old bad boy off.. and your good to go until you get the manual one. Not sure there is any difference in pedal height, but will work in pinch.
Last, on the swaps we did in Okinawa, a lot of times we left the auto ECU in.. and they ran great, (some people even claim they run a little richer, no proof though)...Just an FYI..
Good luck.

Sorry bout that.. I was speaking tranny swaps in general.
As for an S13 (for example) - no real difference, other than the O/D light on the auto. guage cluster.
Some cars have the gear selections on the guage cluster..
-my bad.
