does it make it as you are putting the shifter into reverse, if so could be the tranny...

No it just makes the noise after you let start stopping right after you back up Could it be the universal joints in the driveshaft?

Does it sound or feel like it's coming from the brakes? Mine grumble occasionally while I'm in reverse.

Best wishes,
Matt

Take a Close look at the mounting rubbers. You MAY find that
you have to replace the trailing arm rubber.
Jacking the car to open the well is the Best way to view this.
Just an idea

I wouldn't really classify this as a complaint or even a problem. It's just one of those things you have to deal with when you have an older car. Mine makes that grumbing sound but it stops fine. Thats why I've never bothered to worry about it. If you really want to fix it though, I'd just replace the rubber as was suggested. Either way, if that doesn't work, you'll be closer to finding the real problem. Should be pretty easy to find.

Good luck,
Matt
