okay i don't know if this is my brakes, or if it is common with rear wheel drive cars, but after a good drive i park my car in the garage the smell from my driver side rear wheel is a nasty burning smell. So i thought maybe it was metal on metal n my brakes were getting worn. Well so i change all 4 brakes n rotors, i parked it up after a good drive and the smell is still there. I want to know if this is something i should be worried about bcuz i am worried about it. The first time i realized this i stopped and parked outside my garage and saw a stream of smoke comming from my rear brake. Wasn't sure what it was so i had the brakes replaced. Be great if i could get some insight.

 

put the car on Jack stands and make sure all four wheels turn freely......

 

is your caliper leaking fluid into your rotors? Also possibly bad wheel bearings.

 

i was thinking fluid leaking onto rotors too, but when we changed brakes no signs of leaks? possible bad wheel bearing? how do i do diagnostics for that...

 

if the wheels spin freely and don't wobble when the rear is raised, i'm more inclined to believe that the problem is exhaust related. otherwise you have probably have a problem with a caliper leaking fluid or sticking.

 

lol maybe you should explain your "good" drive, what does that mean? normal drive to work or a fun drive on the corners?

when hardbraking over time you can heat up the brakes and steam and burning clutch smell may come. ive done this many many times its pretty normal if your driving hard

these old cars need new calipers man..... my rears were seizing up.. but since i left for japan.. i just left them.

 

well good drive meaning like 15min normal drive to test things out. The smell is very distinct though comming from specifically my rear driver side. So maybe i should change the calipers? Oh and weird kind of off the subjects from the brakes but we just installed my megan racing coilovers and today i noticed this weird sound comming from my passenger rear side, it sounds kinda like a ball bouncing. It goes in sync with rotations of my wheels too. I couldnt think of anything other than maybe its normal.

 

Like they said put it in neutral after you jack it up make sure the wheels turn freely. If it doesn't, you have a caliper sticking...when you changed the brakes were one side more worn than the other?

Your noise could be several things...is everything tight from when you did the coilovers? Did you make sure the wheels were torqued, or at least tight and not coming loose? If it is speed sensitive(changes with increase or decrease in speed) it is most likely a slipped belt in the tire...while you have it jacked up...spin the wheel and see if it has a high spot on it. Also run your hand the whole way around the tire to feel for any irreugalities.

 

check your lug nuts man. haha.
