HELP! Burning oil & rough idle at start

HELP!!!
I have a KA24DE with a Garret T3/T4 Hybrid and I am having some problems. I seem to be burning oil(~1.5 quarts last month). I also am noticing a rough idle condition after engine startup, usually lasting about 5 minutes until the engine has properly heated up. When I depress the accelerator the car sometimes hesitates (feels like car is sputtering) before gaining power like normal. After the car is heated up and I have been driving it for 5 minutes the sluggish acceleration ceases.

My mechanic tells me that it is likely the turbocharger is going out and that this may be the cause of the burnt oil and idle/sluggish acceleration issues. Does this make sense? He suggests I have the turbo rebuilt with new seals and bearings. The vendor I purchased the turbo from in 1999, will do this for $200.

I would have to remove the turbo, mail it out and be without a car while waiting for the turbo to be rebuilt...which is fine....I just want to MAKE SURE THIS SEEMS LIKE THE LIKELY CAUSE OF MY PROBLEMS before going through with it. DO MY PROBLEMS SEEM LIKE COMMON ONES FOR A DYING TURBOCHARGER??

That sounds like the turbo to me... take off the intercooler piping and see if there is oil in them, if there is, sorry to say, its gunna be the turbo. Same conditions i had on my 91 turbo laser same sluggish response and hard start... there were puddles of oil in the intercooler piping... also had a 89 supra started better and seemed to run pretty well but looked in the piping and there was oil took off the turbo n there was tons of shaft play, so when u take off the piping check for shaft play on both sides if there is better find a box and ship it off

hmmm doesnt sound like a turbo problem to me.

at ldle the car is not boosting so how can it be the turbo? it is basically running NA.

The hesitation could be timing as well as fuel delivery, what fuel system are you using i.e injectors, fuel computer.
check you maf. and the wiring.

also look at relays as well.

as far as burning oil check your lines, look at your intercooler as well.

have you beaten on the car since the turbo? You engine may just be old.

Really? we had a 91 ford probe a few years ago that we sold, and it wasnt turbo... it must have been a factory option..
