I'm amazed most enthusiasts thought the little 1.8 litre couldn't achieve past 450HP, without blowing the valve train.
It's the little choo choo train that could....LOL I mean engine

I am still not convinced that these cars lasted very long, I had a 490whp CA and it was well built block was perfect, the head was perfect, I had everything ported polished, the block decked cleaned, oile pump was rounded out, ported a little and polished, new bearings, full Tomei head, cams,Cam gears, the works I spent alot of money on it

After it was broken in I coule boost the TO4R to 1.6 and I was off hit up two drag events and the thing started overheating and could never find the cause

New Big *** radiator, New 63deg thermostat, New twin FAL fans, water jackets were cleaned and blown out. The whole cooling system was new and or made better.

Yeah they are not very reliable when it comes down to it, I think the whole aluminum/Iron thing is just a waste despite a good metal headgasket

Yeah the enigne that I fully built was taken real good care of. We ran a micro-rotary tool through all the water channels opened them up a little and polished them It is hard to explain I was drag racing the car and it still overheated. Oh well the are out of date good for their time but out of date.

There are ways that could of cooled the engine from over heating, such as windage trays and scrapers to cool oil fast, and even using a dry sump system.
The problem wasn't the coolant system.

I had Setrab Oil cooler with cooling fans, 3 core Copper radiator, vented hood which was damaged during the swap, There is nothing much different then the way I have my SR set up now the CA is just an Overheat monster. There is nothing I did think of when it cam to cooling that engine. Too much power on a fully built engine, just took it's toll the car was flowing air Right then I just ripped the CA out and dropped in the SR never had that problem again.

This was the day after I dropped the engine in . I just got the car back from the paint shop. This is an 1988 S13 that previously had TO4R fully built CA.
