By dash I hope you mean the piece that goes around the instrument panel. There is no need to take your whole dash out.

If you are taking about that black piece around the cluster, you just need to work at it and move it around. It is a pain in the *** to do but it comes. I forced the plastic piece on the bottom left side over the steering steering column.

oh man you didnt remove the needles and the reinstall them did you? thats a big no no. anyways if you installed them the right way, most likely the needle is just getting stuck because the gauge is not fully pressed down (commom problem with glow gauges). try using some double sided tape....that should hold it down good enough for the needle to move freely. although there are some instances where the gauge is just too thick and wont work period.

if you did remove the needle. you have to wind it back up. they probably didnt tell you to remove the little pin that the needle sits on and mark were the needle falls to... well, take out the pin wind your needle counter clock wise a little bit, go out and drive your car and see were its at. you ave to adjust it that way or your screwed. it probably wont ever be perfectly correct again.
