car rev up by itself and crashed! (long story)

heres the story:

i took my friend to a body shop pick up his integra...since he got in accident

a month ago. and he had the shop to do a JDM front end conversion.

when we were on the way home i was driving slowly around 60mph, after

two exits, i didnt see my friend behind me and i looked around to see if he

was passing me...but nothing. so i called him up, he told me he lost control

and crashed the car...when i drove back to the scene, his car was facing

the incoming traffic on the freeway, he spun out and hit the center divider on

the freeway. the whole new jdm front end is gone, air bags popped out. this

happened 10 mins after we left that bodyshop.

my friend explained everything to me how that happened:
all of a sudden the rpm keep going up, he tried to brake but the car keep

going faster and faster. he pull the e-brake and hit the center divider.

anybody know what could cause that problem? (car rev up by itself)
is that possible he could file a lawsuit against the bodyshop?
if so, what kind of lawyer should we try to contact?

any help would be highly appreciated.
thank you so much for your time

Teddy

first you have to have proof of the problem. The throttle cable could have gotten stuck, or the butterfly could have also. You have to prove that its the bodyshop's fault. If there is something jammed somewhere that belongs to the bodyshop, then yes, they can be sued. If not, if there is no proof chouch it up to natural selection. btw your friend is a moron for pulling the e-brake...why not just put the car in nuetral, turn the ignition off (to the point the car cuts off but steering lock is not engaged) and coast into the emergency lane...he would have saved his car and his motor.

i think he was just too nervous to do the reactions...

isnt it hard to trace the problem since its now happened already the front end is already smashed...

well since on hondas the throttle cable and the throttle body are near the rear of the motor they should still be able to be inspected.

check the lil things first like, see if the carpet buried the gas pedel, that happen to me befor, as far as the Butterfly being open, the only way i see that happening is if he had like a ton of gunk build up

your freinds reaction time and coolness in bad situations isnt the best.....be a good freind and make sure he never owns a rwd car, lol. as far as the rpms going up it could have been some sensor that got f-ed up fom the first accident or it could have just been somthing stupid. if the car still starts...start it and see if it revs own its own, if it does then good if not then your freind is ****ed. did he get a ticket?

i wouldn't talk unless ive been in those situations. so far i hit a van, totaled a car...integra....,broke a control arm and bent a rim. everyone makes mistakes, thats how you learn. but in situations like this, some people can stay calm and some people can handle it. the people that can are usually people that just enjoy driving for the fun of it and drive hard and learn how to handle bad situations. but on the flip thier are people that love cars but just stress themselves out and react before they think. its hard to explain especially since drifting is almost just a reaction but when i go out and play im always calm and cool. not alot of people will put thier cars sideways at 40+mph. without swearing...lol. its hard to explain but eveyone should know what i am talking about.
