Car design is like any art form- there are trends and influencial movements. And most art tends to be cyclical- so seeing similar design styles repeating years apart isnt uncommon. There are whole schools of design for cars - so these simularities are probably more then coincidence. Car designer A notices that designer B has a new style that is popular in Europe - suddenly A's cars have the same fins as B's europian cars.... etc - thats why all the new cars these days look like audis

just the ole 2 cents

Well i think recently most of the automotive styling trends have come from europe- the first cars to really have that massively round look were from audi and VW- now almost every car is sporting a cartoonish " bubble " look.
However a fair argument could be made that the old american classic stylings are coming back into vogue aswell....

Its actually interesting to watch how a major automotive designer can single-handedly change the entire automotive world. Its the whole trickle down effect. For example i have a toyota Mr2 which owes its looks directly to ferrari- thats a simple instance of designers taking pointers from an other... look at other cars manufactured around the same time as my mr2 ( 91) ford probe, rx-7 and obviously the feiro ALL share styling characteristics with cars like ferrari. It is no coincidence.

Im slightly pontificating as an amature styling enthusiast- but i think what im saying has some merit.... eh?
