have any of you done this before?

i got bored yesterday and wanted to do something to my car so i decided to try to rig my intake. i just got a job and havent gotten a paycheck yet and when i do get it i dont want to spend $25 on a cone filter when i can invest that money into another car part. so i just took the whole bottom of the intake out and taped the filter on like this.

i made my own bracket for it to go on and it holds up pretty good.

it gives me alittle bit better throttle response and my car sounds alittle deeper. i can also get to my other fuse box easier now too. im gonna boost it later and i didnt want to spend money on an intake so i just did this.

ive dont something similar. i cut most of the bottom half off while still making sure i could still screw/clip it back onto the top section so that it holds the filter on.

I remember doing that to my first s13 a few years ago when I had it.

yea i was thinking about cutting the bottom half off so i could use the clips to mount it but i didnt know if i would have to use it again and i didnt want to ruin it so i just used black duct tape.

lol i did that but i didn't use tape. i put it in regular and coated the part that goes in the plastic with some rtv gasket maker. then i put it all back together for the night so the glue would set. the next day i removed the bottom half and instantly i had a cheap intake.
