HELP!!! With Starter
If you cant lend some constructive help, why bother posting SHIFT_Sideways?
As my friend stated he ownes a 89 240SX which is an automatic.
He called up that place mentioned above and told them he needed a replacement engine for his 240 SX as it had blown up. They sold him what they said was a JDM 240SX engine.
The engine looks exactly like the one that was in his car as stated.
When it was installed it was found that the motor mounts were diffrent and the hole where the starter mounted up was not the same. It would appear that the starter that came on his car is too big to use with this engine.
The company that sold this engine did not supply a starter like most JDM engine suppliers do.
I'm under the impression that Ka24 engine was never sold in japan either.
After talking to DraFt on the phone and calling the importer I learned the engine they sent him was technicly the wrong engine. They said they sent the truck engine on mistake.
They said the truck version has the same long block though so it should work.
Any thoughts?
They already installed the engine so it would be nice to find a work around but if they have to pull it and get another, I guess they do.

hahaa newbies.. thats funny.. im guessing someone must have picked on you when you were just getting into 240sx's right ? thats why you feel the need to sit on here and bash people that are new to this? typical lamer
look, don't bother getting into an arguement with SHIFT~ obviously he's not going to do anything to help. If the importer sent you the wrong engine, then it's his mistake and you'll have to work it out with him about who's going to pay to pull the engine if it comes to that. The KA series engines were NEVER sold in JDM 240's (a.k.a Silvias) to the best of my knowledge. The KA engine was supposedly used in various Nissan trucks but I don't know which ones. If I were you, the first thing I would do is to somehow determine EXACTLY which engine you have and then go about finding the corresponding starter... Is the KA engine you have single overhead cam or double?

His engine is the ka24e (sohc). So I guess he has to find a starter for a nissan truck motor... Personally I would just contact the people, tell them they have to pay for shipping the engine back and get the right one. They screwed up. You shouldn't have any problems getting it resolved.
As far as "newbies" go... Everyone is one at some point. You don't just buy a car and automatically know everything about it, especially a car like a 240sx. There's so many different types. I mean there's 180sx, 200sx, 240sx.. they were produced in like Austrailia, Japan, US, ect.. and they all came with different front ends, rear ends, engines, differentials, left/right hand drive, ect... so don't bash on people just because they don't know that a KA wasn't produced in Japan.

Yeah I think thats what im going to do. I'm just going to send the engine back and get the right one. They were willing to send me any part/parts that i needed to make the engine work but then I might run into some other problems and I think it would just be alot easier to get the right engine for my car!
