I need some advice/guidance on parts

I haven't seen a thread for something like this, so I'll ask. I have enough money to buy a stock 240sx and about 5-6k to put in to the car once I buy it. Which 240 would you recommend? The s13 or s14?

My second biggest question is: With that initial 5-6k, what would you change on the car? Keep in mind I wouldn't be able to modify it further for a year or so (due to cash flow). Would you perhaps go ahead and do the sr20 swap? I really don't know too much about drifting/240sx, so any advice on what to invest my money in with that first 5-6k would be really appreciated. I've looked at all the common parts and other things that people use on their cars... I'm just not sure what's the best, and in what order to install parts. I'll be doing the work myself, so don't factor in the cost of labor.

Thanks again!

first

me i would get the S14 jsut because i like them, but im not recomnededing them because i dunno much abotu the diffrences..

but i would first spend the money on suspension, and NOT engine, becasue if u dont knwo much about drifitng u should get the feel for it first...

when u get the feel for it if u have enough money left over do the sr20 swap, maybe a blacktop if u have enough money left.. maybe someone can help you out with the prices... kinda busy

hope i helped a lil

Get whichever one you think looks pretty...**** the SR20, fix whats wrong with the car and then worry about modding it.

id buy an s13, then spend about 1-2grand on suspension and save the rest, and prolly by the time you have another couple grand saved ull have learned how to drive the car and can do motor work

first, this will be hard, but you can do it. and believe me it will be worth it. ready?

you need to do research for at least a month. read anything and everything you can find on 240sx's on this site as well as www.zilvia.net , then figure out what platform is right for you, and by then you should have a initial list of mods you feel fit for your application.

do it!

first off it depends if you want a drift car or a drag car? what i did and would recomend is buy a s13 shell if you can find one for cheap and put in a sr20 (redtop would be fine unless you wanted to pay more money for same engine just newer then buy a blacktop) and upgrade the turbo if you want to be real fast for a drag car but if you wanted to go for a drift car then spend your money on suspention then if you have a couple grand left over buy the sr20 for a little power in your drift... but on the s13 or 14 just go with whichever you think looks better....

Is there a real difference between the s13 and s14 as far as drifting is concerned? The s14 looks more balanced...

I'd like to first say you are on the right track. However, you should do a little more research before purchasing a car and modifying it. You may go in the wrong direction and waste thousands of dollars doing so.

Are you looking to drift? If so, and guys correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've read, the S13 hatch is the more balanced of all the 240's and would make a better platform for a drift car. Although, I hear the S13 coupe is more rigid. The coupe will be a little harder to come by.

The SR20 would be the better motor as well - for drifting. Again, if you're looking to build a drift car, I wouldn't be to concerned about the body and just buy a shell. Of course, if you can get a decent looking shell, go for it.

If you'd be interested in AutoX or drag racing, I'd recommend building up the KA, but that's just me. Different guys on this forum may have a different opinion and they're allowed to have it. Altimately it's up to you and what floats your boat and rocks your ****.

Definitly do a little more research before you start "investing" tons of money. FYI, when it comes to cars, they aren't an investment. It's kinda like digging a hole and throwing your money into it, but if it's fun for you as a hobby, treat it just as that, a hobby and realize you probably won't get back what you "invested".

As far deciding which model to get, get what ever looks prettiest to you. You are the one who's going to be driving it, not anybody else. As long as you like it, what does it matter what anybody else thinks (rhetorical)?

I'm not so much concerned about the looks as I am knowing whether the s13 or s14 is better for drifting overall.

its all about what you prefer and what suspension/drivetrain each has. before you buy either go drive a bone stock s13 and s14 then make a decision. i would get an s14 for depenability/less problems

I don't think it matters which model, but most of the drifting 240's I've seen are S13's. That's gotta tell you something. In my opinion, I think the S13 would be better for drifting. Although I'm not an expert or even know much about drifting, like I said before all I've seen are the S13 models. I hear they are smaller, as a result lighter. I hear the weight ratio of the fastback is approx. 52/48 or something like that, but the coupe is more rigid. I think you'll be safe with any 240 though. I haven't read up on much in regards to the S14 or 15.
