Smile Just got a 240SX today....

Well, not quite, here is my story...

Mid last year, during a divorce I bought my now ex#2 a 1992 240SX Hatchback for her 20 year old son. The car had 151K miles, used to be red but somebody had taken a grey brush to it, very dull grey. But it was mechanicaly sound, ran good and had good power. $1,850 was the price.

After some brake work, the keys went to he kid, 20 at the time.

Two weeks later the car was in a ditch at 5AM, sad victim to drugs, drinking and a 20 year old who knows everything. I paid a tow truck to bring it to a field accross my house.

There it sat, month after month. All rims bent, air out of the tires. He had hit the curve square at 50+ and left most of the suspension, steering and other lower trim pieces behind while he flew into the ditch.

He started showing up, every now and then, to "work" on it. With no money, some parts had to be "bent back into shape"... 4 rims from another Nissan, with so-so tires. A rack and pinion from the junkyard, etc... About 8 weeks ago the car left.

As things turn around, he ended up living in the car. I took him in, but by now (a) tags are expired, (b) insurance has lapsed and (c) he is about to loose his licence, for unpaid tickets. And the car runs like crap.

This AM the car won't start. After deciding not to spend the money for a fuel filter, and after I mentioned he should noitice his fuel level is below E, he wants to sell the car as is. So I gave him $850, and he took it. Mind you, I bought the car for him to start with, so I just purchased the car again, in extremely worst condition than before. But, the things we do for a son.

A fuel filter (8.95) and a tank of gas later, the car starts up like nothing was wrong.

He does not want it, because the suspension and other repairs required are totally out of his reach. He can barely afford to fix his licence. So I have a project car. To give you an idea :

- Paint : Total do over, used to be red, now flat grey brushed on.

- Clutch feels good, but stick is terrible (loose)

- Suspension : front suspension geometry and struts (!)
- Suspension : rear geometry and shocks (!)
- Steering : Rack and pinion questionable, power steering hose/not hooked up, pump?

- Brakes : review all around
- Oil change and grease never done since last year.
- Inside : carpet, seats, smell
- Needs speakers, radio and antena (total rewire)
- One front left headlight. Inside panel lights are off (fuse?)

- Has AEM Intake (installed Feb 2003 new)
- Battery bracket/hold
- Blue smoke on aceleration.
- Exhaust : cat back.

- Rims : Nissan (not original 240SX) 15", 4 lug
- Tires : P205/60R15 Rear
- Tires : P195/60R15 Front

- Need driver side mirror
- Winshield cracked!

I wasn't aware that he asked for help. He was telling a story not asking for help.

Oh, trust me, he has had his lectures.

Now, the car is mine and he has no wheels. He knows he has to work and save his money because I AIN'T buying him any more cars.

So that might be part of the penalty. I will fix up the car nice, maybe even have some paint on it, and then, I might keep it or sell it. He gets to watch and NOT drive it again...

Of course, he is my son, what can you do. We fathers always have hope, and he is trying very hard. He got a job and has kept it (for a week). He also went paid his tickets and his licence is clear. Hey, it is a start.

My other car is... a 350Z. He got a ride the other day, but he can't drive it. Lots of "lesson learning" when you are sitting on the sidewalk, no?

I think your doing it right. I know i couldn't kick my own kids *** to the curb. Sometimes it just takes a little to make them wake up. And by showing him all this stuff that you got and he don't got **** will hopefully be enough to wake him up.
