New 240 Owner
New 240 Owner
I just moved to Texas from Brooklyn, NY and decided I was going to need a car again. My previous vehicles being a '67 Fastback and a Honda Civic, it looks like I settled somewhere in between.
After lurking around this forum and others for months, I finally purchased a 1990 240sx yesterday. Driving it home (about 350 miles) I already fell in love with it and I'm excited about all my ideas for fixes and mods.
It's got a TON of miles on it- 193,345. There's a tapping that comes and goes- points to a collapsed lifter- and there are the usual leaks, shakes and squeaks. However, the engine purred all day long at 75 mph on the trip home. This car has an engine swap in it's near future- SR, yes- so as long as this tired little motor gets me around for a few months I'll be alright. Most of the rest of the car is in good shape.
I stopped at a Discount tire on the way and had the two rear tires replaced- on one of them the tread had separated, and the other had a flat spot from sitting without enough air for awhile. Some of the guys at Discount are buddies I went to high school with, so I ended up getting out of there for only 27 dollars. Awesome.
I guess that's enough to read for now. To prevent me from being put in the noob stocks for starting a "new car" thread without photos, here are some shots the guy sent me before I went to pick it up. I think it's the crappy gas station lights or maybe the harsh camera flash, but the car actually looks a little better in person. For what I paid, I'm happy. I'll take better photos in the daylight tomorrow and add to this thread.
Thanks in advance for all the help you guys are sure to provide.
