pulley w/ harmonic balancer (fluidampr)
pulley w/ harmonic balancer (fluidampr)
So browsing these forums many many times for a crank pulley, i've learned that most if not all aftermarket pulleys (unorthodox, asp) don't have a harmonic balancer (stock). Even AEM don't offer one because of the long term affects of a pulley without a harmonic balancer (read their website).
So iw as reading my superstreet magazine and came across an integra buildup article and they had the same concern. So they mentioned this company called FLUIDAMPR which produced pulleys with the harmonic balancer but sadly they do not make a pulley set for our cars.
Are they the only company out there that makes an aftermarket crank pulley with harmonic balancers? On their website they said specifically that they do not make custom pulleys but i figure if there is enough demand then maybe someone can contact them. They loook expensive tho.

The website also mentioned a company called ATI.

I'm not sure how exactly this damper works but i think its bolted on between the crank hub and a pulley.. someone correct me if i'm wrong i have no clue right now.
again.. this looks expensive too.

I know on some stock harmonice dampeners its just a stiff rubber thats part of the pulley ... and absorbs some of the vibrations put off by the engine ... Now Im new here so Im not familer with 240's but on my Mazda ... I had my OEM pully go bad because of the dampener .. it desintigrated .. and part of the pulley came loose and started hitting my timing belt .. After that I took a look at a couple other older engines and their dampener on them was old looking dried out and cracked .. after so long I think they just harden up and somewhat lose the ability to do any thing other than cause problems .. So i opted to go with the Unorthodox UDP .. In my mind unless I got a brand new OEM pulley from the dealer (Lotsa $$) .. The dampener wouldnt be in the best of shape anyways ...
There is no dampener on the actual crank pulley of the KA24de. Although it's counter part the z24i engine does, and so does KAE. Instead Nissan designed the dampeners onto the AC and power stering pulley's. If You are just changing the crank pulley there shouldn't be a problem......
If you are concerned just slap some dynomat between the pulley and crank shaft hub..........
Don't buy an entire unorthodox pulley kit, just get the crank pulley.............

It's cheaper to just get an aluminum flywheel and crank pulley, dropping the degredation from the AC and power steering is pointless and only drops minor degredation" under a HP".
I got my aluminum pulley for $90 off ebay, and got my aluminum fly wheel and clutch kit through nizzx for $520.
Best deal I ever spent and I significantly raised my top end power.
I dropped more rotational mass from the flywheel than I could of through the pulley kit anyway's.
KA24 OEM fly wheel weigh's about 24LB.S, I dropped it to 11LB.s.

OH. I already have an aluminum flywheel which makes a BIG difference. But I was going to do the full OR pulley kit. After this I might just do the crank pulley. But I still have more research to do.

You can do dc/ac inversion and run a swamp cooler motor to drop 100% of the degredation to run the water pump, power steering pump, and the a/c which would be a major onvenience...........
It is true that the crank pulley is the one pulley with the most noticable gains. Other pulleys such as the waterpump or alternator are usually used mostly for cosmetic purposes.
Also, the concerns about solid aluminum pulleys having long term issues are more so regarding motors used for extreme conditions and competitions where they spend the majority of their lifetime very close to redline. If you think about it our average daily drivers very rarely see the redline, so this is not much of a concern in most cases.
Pick up a nice crank pulley and enjoy it. Unorthodox racing and NST, www.NonStopTuning.com both have some good stuff, one is just MUCH cheaper than the other. Good luck man.
