quick question about a cars value.

Alright guys,

I just bought a 96 240 sx se. It has 135k. miles, 5 spd, black leather, with black interior. It isn't perfect, but it's in pretty good condition.

It has an apexi exhaust, injen intake, apexi coilovers, and 300zx brakes.

i paid 5k. even for it. Is that a decent price or did i pay too much/less than normal?

My second question is........

How much would this EXACT same care be worth(meaning how much do they actually SELL for) if i dropped a stock sr20det blacktop in it?

I have searched tons, and just want to know opinions.

Any are welcome. thanks!

5500. the sr doesn't raise the price of the car much... just the size of the whole in your wallet.

it depends, if you sell the car to someone interested in the sr swap you might get more. but to a dealership they dont care other than the fact the mileage is lower.

I thought SR's will kick up the value.... depending who u are selling it to. I mean I've seen S13's with SR's for sale for like 9k.

5k for a 96 w/ leather and 135k isn't bad...

I almost bought a 96SE with 125k for like $4200...

I ended up buying a 95 with 50k for $4800 (I paid for the low milage, and the fact that it was one owner, a middle aged couple, and all dealer maintained... I have all the reciepts to prove it too)

Yup. I know it wion't do anything for the ACTUAL value of the car, but i was kinda wondering more about the market value.

thanks for your answers. I don't feel too bad about the price now.

thats basically what i said. it will only sell to someone interested in having an sr swapped 240. but if you go to a dealer to say trade or sell it, they dont care that you pur an sr in it other than the engine being lower in mileage.

yea you got a pretty good price on that. As fas as the sr and what it would be worth depends on who you sell it to. People without knowledge of these types of swaps wont pay as much cause they dont know if its done right. But to someone who knows the deal with the sr (and depending on how young they are) i'm sure you can get off pretty good with it. But it wont raise the market value much at all.

ditto ditto ditto. Engine swaps would possibly lower the overall value of the car because of the fact that you don't know if the work was done properly or Mickey Moused. Likewise, all OEM usually holds its value the longest.

5k though with the extras is a good deal.. I got my 95 SE (130k miles) with no leather, some generic exhaust, stock intake, stock brakes, GR-2's, and bad pain for $4100. I went for it because the interior was intact (body can be fixed), the chassis was straight, and the engine was bone stock since the first owner.

Good catch there, bro
