Rod Knock ?

I recently bought a 90 SOHC for 200 bucks. The main problem with the car is that it has rod knock. She has 175k on the motor and at about 3k rpm's you can hear it. Is there anything that i can do to help with it other than replace the berring? I intend to swap the DOHC motor in eventualy, but i dont have the $$$ to do it right now. Any help would be apreciated.

What do you want first, the good news or the extremely bad news...........
Well I guess the good news first....
Atleast you weren't ripped off......
Bad news is due to the extremely long bore and stroke of the KA you should replace the internals IMEDIATELY!!!!!!!!
Everytime you run that engine you put it at greater risk of damaging cylinder walls, or throwing the rod and piston through the engine block.
THE CURE......
Invest into TOPLINE INTERNALS kit with a bore of .020, or .040.
Since the engine is open I would also decrease the volume of the cylinder head through on e of two processes.
Ceramic coating, or head welding......
Open that engine up for performance upgrades.........

Currently I have very little money. How heavy a weight is to heavy? Some people have told me to run 20w-50 where as others have said that its WAY to thick for an OHC engine.
