s14 coolant system question. HELP!!!

Thanks for lookin' guys.

96 240sx se. I just bought the car in the past month or two.

The car has a single T-Fal electric fan.

AFTER the car heats up to normal tempurature, when i downshift and rev the motor above 4k. rpm, the coolant guage drops A LOT. It goes from the middle of the guage(while driving slow) to below 1/4 on the temp guage when reving high.

I JUST had the radiator re-cored(cleaned well) and i replaced the thermostat with a genuine nissan one. I also thought that a loose alt. belt could mess with the guages, so i tightned it to spec, and put belt dressing on it. I also replaced the grounds and battery terminals.

STILL, the guage fluctuates badly when i rev. high. PLEASE help! What is going on? I KNOW this isn't normal or right.

The only thing left is the water pump. Does this sound like a bad water pump? I've never seen this before.

thanks in advance!

To check for a bad water pump it'll leak, look for leaking coolant. Look at the pump and see if you see residue from drops of water flowing from the pump, if so it's bad, but if it was bad your car would be overheating

take your t-stat out and test it, I bet it's bad. It took me 3 of them to get it to work. . . either that of your gauge is messed up.

Just because you just replaced it doesn't mean it's working. Take it out and test it to be sure.

When are your fans kicking on ?

fans are actually ALWAYS on. The prev. owner rigged it to turn on with ignition.

About the thermostat...... A bad thermostat should make the car overheat right? If it's not overheating, then it should take forever to warm up...

My car does neither one. I turned the fan off yesterday and turned the motor on. The upper hose was ice cold untill temp guage said half way. Then I could feel the water flowing in upper hose, therefore i'm almost pos. it's not the thermostat.

The only thing i left out is...... The car was cool. I took the radiator cap off, and turned the motor on. While the car was heating up, the radiator kept spitting water/coolant out of the top where the cap should be. On all my other cars, the water just sits still untill the thermostat opens, and then you can see the water flowing smoothly. On my 240, the water slowly and continously poored out the top. then when the thermostat opened, it REALY spit the coolant out. Whats up with that?

thanks for the replies guys!
