shift ****
i have a 93 240, and the shift **** has like a leather covering and is threaded down the middle, then i saw my friends 91 shift **** and he has that leather layer covering taken off and inside was a smoother shift **** with the gears #'s on top, is this the same with my car??

so if i take of that leather tread thingy it basically wont have anything below it? because the thing is, he still had the bottom half of the shift **** with that leather covering and the top had the numbers etc etc, it looked like a halfway peeled banana basically.

Your friend might just have an aftermarket shift ****. The shift boot and the collar for the boot will still be there even though you have a new ****. There is what feels like an O ring or collar on the boot. You might be mistaking that for the bottom of the old shift ****.
I have an SE with the leather ****. The shift pattern is on the center counsel. I think there is a standard where the pattern must be somewhere around or no the ****.
