Question shift ****

i head somewhere that the 240's shift **** is counterweighted so if you changed it it would grind in third gear when speed shifting... is that true? and if it isnt how the hell do i get the damn stock one off of my 95 240? it's impossible.

I don't know about the whole "counterweight" thing, the stock shift **** feels normal to me... as for removal,

Don't know bout counterweighted, but they are heavy as hell.

My buddy changed his out to a regular no name shift **** and had no problems.

don't worry about it being "counterweighted", the stock shift **** is a bit heavy, but there's no reason why changing to any other aftermarket shift **** would cause any troubles in shifting. As for not being able to unscrew it, there also shouldn't be an particular reason why you can't get it off~ just unscrew counterclockwise. If it's stuck and not budging, try spraying WD40 near the grooves 'n' tapping on it lightly w/a hammer... g'luck

Yep! tap it lightly, my brother had an protege ( I know its not related) and he was trying to get the shift **** to go in and he taped it down hard and it landed on the street.
But I doubt this will hapend in a 240 because the transmission is right below it. Just be carufull. the shiftknob might not be expensive, but the whole asembly is.
