OBX short shifters (and similar no-name or generic brand) have a tendency to break.

B&M ver.2 or C's (discontinued?) is proven good. Someone said Stillen has one but I've never seen it.

C's is a solid shifter not a short.
B&M is short but I have seen synchros take a dump when you use that shifter and beat on it. It is almost too quick.

Just tried to get my **** off with 2 monkey wrenches for leverage one on the **** and the other on the shaft. I completely stripped the leather and the plastic off the **** but it won't loosen up at all. Now I have a **** with ripped leather and chunks out of the plastic but it won't turn at all. Any ideas.

haha, mine still won't come off... I've ripped off the leather, then the rubber, then the plastic, now i'm down to the metal. This thing still won't come off. I thought i got it when i made it turn... Then i noticed the whole shifter was moving...
