spark plugs
doing a tune up this week on my 89 240. what kinda spark plugs do you guys reccomend. i want something good. i used ngk's on my alty, they worked out nicely. would it be worth the money to get iridium?
NGK Iridium plugs are made with a smaller electrode than is possible with regular plugs. This means that spark plugs' potential difference is more concentrated and hence less 'spark jump' voltage is required - this can be as much as 5,000 volts less than with standard plug types. Ignition is improved and less strain is placed on the ignition system. Benefits of improved ignition and combustion include better fuel economy, increased acceleration and especially better throttle response.
If you've got the KA24E in your '89, you're likely to benefit from the longer spark plug life more than anything else. Maybe a little hotter spark would help burn through the bit of oil that's bound to be making its way past your rings. Anyway, I'd pay the extra money for them, but don't really expect a performance boost. Regardless of type, I'd definitely say NGK is my brand of choice.
