speedometer not working

try taking the gauge cluster out of the dash, checking all the wiring make sure nothings come loose, and check under the hood to make sure the other end of your speedometer wire is running into your transmission.
i would check to make sure its in your transmission first , since thats the easiest thing,.
in case you dont know what im talking about:
your speedometer cable has an end with a gear on the end of it, this simply plugs into a hole in the top of your tranny, which allows the gauges to register your speed and miles, your problem may very well be that youve hit a bump or something, and that wire has juggled loose over time, and may be half way in there so every once in a while itll catch and jump. but like I said, check that first, its a lot easier and simpler than pulling the whole gauge assemly out of the dash.

O.K? If you have a SR20DET in your car, the 89-90 cluster wont work. You have to get the newer model ones like I had to. If your cluster is digital, then you'll have to take it apart and replace the capacitor behind it (stock non SR). For some reason they just burn out. I suggest that you go and get a newer model 240 with an analoge gauge, it should work, it's much easier then trying to fiqure it out. P.S. there's no speedometer cable for those of you who don't know.
