Stock 89' KA24E
Stock 89' KA24E
Club240'ers! Hear me now! Hah
I got my car not too long ago. Few months and as many 240' drivers, Im loving every turn and every moment spent in it. I didnt really want to try much with it, scared of what could happen if I push hard on 16 year old car.
I was wondering, how many of you guys actually pushed you stock 240's (KA24E). I hate drag, thats no fun so i really dont push too hard but i try to drift every once in while, so revs are usually high.
Does anyone else try this? Drifting in the KA24E and drag? I dont like drag but id like to know what cars I can run against without getting my |_|s|s| (buy a vowel) beat to shreds.

when i got my 240 i had already been drivign for about 3 years really hard.
so the day i got my 240 pretty much i went out that night ( it rained the first day i bought it, when u downshift be careful when letting the clutch out in the rain. at the time i didnt know about shift lock and i had bald tires all the way around. sideways on the highway doesnt feel good at all) and played with it and got use to the FR layout this was only my second time ever driving FR.
my 89 KA had 189xxx miles when i bought it. I just changed the oil, plugs and wires and took off the air box resinator abd A/c. I abused the motor everyday almost trying to learn how to drift and taken it on back roads, I blew it up at about 230xxx after to much hi RPMs ( its not a honda motor if u wanna rev high make sure u have titanium valves, retainers, keepers and springs)
take it easy a bit and learn the physics.

Shift Lock
The one technique I cant seem to understand. I got all of them but Shift Lock just like, i dunno i cant figure out what ur suppose to do.
Do you guys recommend rain over dry? I hear you do grip first then move onto wet. When it rains, i play around, always work on smooth transition between drift to straight and not make car rock. That way i dont need alot of RPMS and tires stay good. Mine are bald now and about to switch but im going to try to abuse them night before i get new ones.
Mine only has 99,6XX miles right now on the stock KA24E. So far its fairly young so i dont wanna push it too bad and blow motor at like 110,XXX or something. I wanna keep this sucker.

na buddy, rain first becuase
1. easy on tires, chassis , drive train, the whole damn car.
2 the car is more predictable.
you wanna start out with low grip tires at first and stay on them for a while untill u have basic control of the car. also grippy tires also require a bit of power/skill to keep them going u cant drop you revs.
shift lock is allowing ur revs to drop with ur foot on the clutch and once u reach the apex ( corner entry ) you release the clutch upsetting ( shocking ) the drivetrain and creats loss of traction. Only do this in the snow and rain unless u have money to replace clutches and trannies frequently.
go to the drift section to learn a lil more.
ps
the previous owner had two 240s and the one i bought was the one he drifted like every other day. so i got a car with alot of drift miles on it

I love the KA24 but keep in mind it is essentially a light truck engine not a sportscar engine. I love the torque compared to an NA SR20 but revving too high kills KA engines, an SR20DE (if you stay NA) are more rev happy engines (more like typical Honda engines) and of course the venerable SR20DET for even more power.
With the exception of of frailty at high revs (6000+) I agree the KA is very strong and durable as long as it isnt over revved too much my KA24E is a 210k miles and running strong as ever I know people that have had KA's go to 300k with good maintenance etc.
A friend of mine has a turbo KA24DE and it has yet to be taken by and SR20DET powered 240SX in a straigt line. The SR20's dont have the torque. They are lighter because they are almuninum vs cast iron for the KA,the SR20's give a better front rear weight balance for even better handling.

my KA ran to 296XXX before i decided that i wasnt going to replace the timing chain tensioner and just let it break. It was a good excuse, for the fiance, to get a new motor. Couldnt ask for more except that she not ride with me so that i could actually drive (someone knows what im talking about)
yea i dont take mine any higher then 6800 due to stock internals ( mainly springs retainers etc) and i have already blew 2 of them
