Basically the shims provide friction to keep the VLSD locked.... However normal VLSD's with stock shims unlock once they are heated. You add more shims to increase friction and decrease the chance of slippage. It's another "poor mans" mod but very affective until you can build up money for a real LSD. I was fortunate to get my Nismo GT 2way for only 400 dollars.

Dang, yeah I paid nearly double that for my Kaaz 2-way...but that thing locked like a mother!

So much fun sliding around, predictability went up greatly.

Damn, if I could pick one up for $400 I would.

When I pulled my one axle shaft out, the snap ring somehow got stuck between the axle shaft spline and inside wall of the splines. So now I have a huge gouge in my axle shaft.Great.

I have no idea how it happened since I have pulled the axle shafts out many other times. I will post a pic later of it. Everything is fine and it still works, I just have a couple splines missing on the edge.

update. I got the pins grinded down and put flats on it. It goes together with a little bit of wiggling, just how I wanted it.

Next are the splines. I need to make my own endmill to cut the splines into the carbon. Oh and I have one week to do it.

Thanks haha. I just hope it holds up. I really wanted to use the 4140 tool steel, but it would have been a lot more and would have costed a lot. But, my instructor believes this will hold up.

Very sure it will, something machine like that to spec...... that's awesome.. Hell my self and many other guys have globs of metal welded to our gears and they hold. You are working with a solid piece of metal. You may even be able to sell these things!!

That's what I was thinking. If welded spider gears can hold for years I don't see why this won't. It's really tight tolerance also, I have to wiggle it to get it to fully drop into place.

I am thinking of selling them, Depends on if I can think of a faster way of doing it. The only thing that will take time is the splines. If I can find a faster way on making them, I can have one made in an hour,2 hour tops(depending on setup and time the splines would take) and if I have the correct machines.

Yea i was going to ask how was the tolerance. As long as you don't have any vibration etc, you should be good to go.

The only thing I was scared was there being too much give on the flats of the pins and would cause it to move back and forth. But it's within .0002.

Just got the carbon blanks machined today. They turned out extremely nice. I also got to try out some sub programing which was easy and kinda sweet.

So, After fighting the edm machine for hours, I finally got the splines done and the spool in the carrier. I am not home yet, so it's not in the differential. I will post badassery pics when I get home late tonight.
