What is a fair price for a radiator installation?

Hello everyone,

My girlfriend has a 1991/1992 (not sure) Nissan 240SX

Anyway, she wrecked it a while back, and although it has been mainly "repaired" with off-colored fenders and a dented hood, she decided she wanted another one. Well, she found another one of the same year and now hers is sitting in front of her house. All it needs is a radiator. I ordered a radiator today, $130 taxes and all... just a standard radiator I suppose.

Anyway, would the installation of the radiator be hard to do myself? I'm not very mechanically inclined. IF not, what would be a fair price in labor to get the radiator replaced?

Any and all insights would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

its very easy. unhook everything from the old radiator, (a hose on the top, one on bottom, get the plastic thingy off, unscew the bolts, swap it with the new one and do the revers.

There are no A/C lines or anything that have to be removed. Seems like I read that somewhere. Thats it huh? What plastic thingy are you referring to?

I really appreciate your insight!

I have very little mechanical experiance and my radiator job only took like 2 hours (I had to take out 2 radiators because I was swapping in a good radiator from my 240 with the blown KA).

You shouldn't have any trouble taking care of it yourself. And if something does stump ya we are here to help.

Thanks everyone, I believe I may try to tackle it myself then... unless I can get it done really cheap. My dad always told me to do what I do for money and pay others to do what they do for money...

i never said you have to remove A/C lines. the radiator has one pipe on top (which has coolant flowing to the engine) and one on bottom (which has coolant coming back from the engine). unhook those two, let all the coolant come out, unscrew the bolts and you are done.

the plastic thingy. its the plastic surrounding that covers the big fan. the plastic goes around it for a better airflow. and i believe it holds itself to the radiator but not sure. anyway it should be easy to remove.

i am totaly wrong in only one case. if you are reffering to swapping the A/C condenssor which looks kinda the same as the radiator. (goes infront of the radiator) if thats the case, then you have to do a total different thing.

No, I am talking about the radiator. Her dad said something about the A/C being screwed up if he did it, because he wasn't sure if he could reassemble the A/C components that you had to remove to get the radiator out. Of course, he doesn't speak english and that is what she translated to me. I'm not even within 150 miles of the car so i can't readily go look at it right now, but I have the radiator with the car now so I will be making a trip within the next few days to get it going...

you know anything about the A/C being related to the replacement of a radiator?

not really. the a/c components dont have anyting to do with radiator and thus it shouldnt get in the way. so you can go with confidence.
