What to look for when buying an s13

hey guys.
I wrecked my prelude at the national prelude meet pretty recently and obviously insurance won't cover a track event, so I found another car I've been wanting to have as a project until I can fix the prelude and keep this car as a daily driver.

I found a 1991 240sx se (pretty sure it's a fastback) 166k miles on it. It's 3500, but the brakes felt like crap so their putting in all new brakes on it right now. I go back for the final test drive today. What should I look for on the car to tell it's condition?

I also drove an 89 with 109k miles on it, but it the engine didn't crank up as good. and it was totally in pieces and the ac didn't work.

What I need to know, what are some common problems I should be looking for on a high mileage 240. It has a what feels to be a foam rubber spoiler on the back that sits flush.. guessing thats not stock

Thanks in advance guys. Nice to be here.

Tension rods will have to be replaced no doubt, check for green coolant, amber oil, anything obvious. Listen very carefully to the transmission as you apply and release the clutch as throwout bearings have taken a crap on me and a number of my friends. You can get a vehicle inspection from a dealer for $80. Oh yeah, the spoiler IS stock.

^ will do

ah they need to replace the tie rods, so I won't be getting the car for a week. but they are giving me all new brakes too.

I just need it to last about 2 years for the car to pay for itself cause the insurance is half what it was on the prelude. might work for the front end conversion in a year.

Hey Bob, this is Josh with the red GS-R from the National Prelude Meet. Funny finding you here, lol.

Anyway, I'm selling my Teg this Sunday, picking up a maroon 90 240sx hatch on Monday. An SR20DET clip with 32k being picked up Tuesday. =)

Good luck with yours!
